The City of Chicago Office of Inspector General (OIG) works to make City government better and to hold City actors accountable when they break the rules.

OIG’s has oversight jurisdiction (by ordinance) over

  • City officials (elected and appointed)
  • City government employees
  • City contractors, vendors, and licensees
  • Lobbyists
  • Public Safety
    • Chicago Police Department
    • Civilian Office of Police Accountability
    • Chicago Police Board

We do not have jurisdiction over Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Park District, Chicago Housing Authority, CTA, or any offices beyond the City of Chicago. Please contact those agencies directly. If you require immediate response from emergency services or need to report criminal activity call 911.
