Under direction of the chief intake specialist, this position receives intakes (complaints about misconduct that falls under OIG’s investigative purview, as well as information provided by the public to OIG about the functioning of City operations and places for improvement from City officials and employees or members of the public) and documents and processes those for further investigation or inquiry by OIG.

DUTIES:

  • Receives intakes from members of public, elected and appointed officials, City employees, and others who have information about misconduct or the functioning of City government
  • Process intakes for OIG, including by conducting preliminary information gathering on the intake, gathering relevant documents, writing detailed intake reports, and entering intakes in OIG’s case management system
  • Interviews complainants to obtain required information
  • Analyzes intake data and advises management on potential trends
  • Follows up on intakes, inquiries, and concerns to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner
  • Interacts professionally with members of the public, elected officials, appointed officials, civic organizations and other individuals associated with private and public entities including commercial and non-profit organizations
  • Other duties as assigned by the chief intake specialist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either 1) Five years of customer service or administrative work experience; or 2) graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree plus three years of customer service or administrative work experience; or 3) graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of customer service or administrative work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Language fluency in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent writing, research, and editing skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and execute competing assignments, and control deadlines
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

ANNUAL SALARY: Range: $52,716 – $85,980 (annual increases)

Starting: $52,716 (non-negotiable); post successful six-month review $55,272.

TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE: Travel outside Chicago is not required. Standard office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Employees must be a resident of the City of Chicago and proof of residency is required at the commencement of employment.
