City Finances
Your Money, Your City
The City Finances dashboards allow users to dive into the City’s budget to understand how appropriations impact public transportation, housing, City planning, and more.
Users can also explore the influence of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) on new projects. A TIF district is an area of Chicago in which a portion of property taxes from the district are reserved for redevelopment projects within the district.
Use the City Finances dashboards to:
- Compare the appropriated budgets for the Chicago Police Department and the Department of Family and Support Services
- Explore which department appropriates the highest amount of money for personnel
- Analyze the fraction of the City budget that comes from Community Development Block Grant programs
Visit the Chicago Department of Planning and Development overview of the TIF program.
