Approximately 89% of the 24th Ward is covered by Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts and is scheduled to remain that way through at least 2032.
What is Tax Increment Financing?
Tax Increment Financing is a special funding tool used by the City of Chicago to promote public and private investment across the City. Funds are used to build and repair roads and infrastructure, clean polluted land, and put vacant properties back to productive use, usually in conjunction with private development projects.

The City of Chicago Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) Socioeconomic and City Data Comparison Dashboard offers the ability to analyze Chicago’s demographic and socioeconomic landscape.
Here’s how to use OIG’s Socioeconomic and City Data Comparison Dashboard to compare TIF Districts and Wards.
1. Selecting Geographic Boundaries
From the Geographic Boundaries menu, select Wards.

2. Selecting TIF Data
From the Select Data menu, select Tax Increment Financing Districts.

3. Viewing Results
With Wards and Tax Increment Financing Districts selected, the data panel shows what percentage of land per Ward is covered by TIF Districts.

4. Highlight a Ward
Clicking on a Ward from the data panel highlights the Ward on the City map.
