David Mitchell

David Mitchell joined the City of Chicago Office of Inspector General (OIG) in 2006 as a supervising investigator. He transitioned to his current role as a chief investigator in February 2024.

At OIG, Mitchell has worked a wide range of administrative and criminal investigations and conducted numerous investigations jointly with federal agencies. Previously, Mitchell worked as a journalist for multiple news outlets where he covered government, politics, courts, and legal issues.

Mitchell holds a BA in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MS in journalism from Northwestern University.
