Did You Know that the City of Chicago Budgeted $22 Million for Street Lighting in 2025?

Annual Appropriation Ordinance

The annual appropriation ordinance is the final City budget as approved by the City Council each year. It lists the budget appropriations that each department will receive from the City for the fiscal year.

Finding the 2025 Electricity for Street Lighting Budgeted Amount

Start by going to the City of Chicago Annual Appropriation Details dashboard and follow along with each step.

1. Select the Appropriation Account

Click the dropdown menu under Appropriation Account.

2. Modify the Default Selection

Uncheck (All) from the dropdown menu.

3. Search Appropriation Accounts

Enter “electricity” into the text field area. Select “Electricity – Street Lighting” and then click “Apply”.

4. Exit Search Results

Exit the search results by clicking the “X” icon or with the ESC key.

5. View the Results

The search results return that approximately $22 million is appropriated for electricity for street lighting to the Department of Fleet & Facility Management (2FM). In addition, you can also see the fund type and fund itself.

Comparing Budgets

In addition to searching appropriation accounts, you can also compare budgets between City departments using this dashboard. Let’s see how the 2FM compares to OIG.

1. Select a Department

To start, select the drop down as highlighted in the screenshot below.

2. Choose Fleet & Facility Management

Under the dropdown menu, select “Fleet & Facility Management”. Once selected, click the highlighted button to close the dropdown menu as shown in the screenshot below.

3. Viewing the Budgets

The dashboard now displays all of the appropriation accounts that fall under Fleet & Facility Management. You can also see which appropriation accounts overlap with OIG.
