The City of Chicago Office of Inspector General (OIG) has won four awards for its redesigned website, igchicago.org, launched in 2023. These awards represent excellence in interactive media production, creative design, and accessible communications.
The awards are:
- The 2023 Best Government Mobile Website by the Web Marketing Association
- The Horizon Interactive Award
- Silver in the 2024 Muse Creative Awards
- The 2024 Communicator Award of Distinction in the Government category
“Information about the government belongs to the governed. OIG’s website offers easy access to all of OIG’s reports, more than 300 published over time, for easy search by department, keyword, year, or more. We continue to add public-facing dashboards, now numbering over 40, to make City data meaningfully available for use by the media, academia, and the public,” said Deborah Witzburg, Inspector General for the City of Chicago. “When someone is ready to reach out with a complaint or a suggestion to make government better, whether on a computer or mobile device, we want that experience to be seamless.”
These awards collectively represent a significant mark of excellence and innovation in digital communication and design, particularly in government. OIG’s website competed with thousands of other websites, podcasts, and other media by creators and agencies worldwide. Together, these honors reflect a commitment to setting high standards in digital platforms that inform and serve the public effectively.
Additional features of igchicago.org include:
- Searchable content: Find over 300 publications or scroll through 40+ dashboards with City information and statistics;
- New design and functionality: Navigate with ease on our user-friendly platform to search reports, explore data dashboards, and ways to contact OIG;
- More user-friendly interface: New search makes audits and reports easier to find; User Guides make dashboards easier to use; and
- Adaptive display: We’ve integrated intuitive menus with a responsive layout to allow for a smooth experience both on desktops and mobile devices.
The redesigned website, created in collaboration with Clarity Partners, LLC and Chicago’s Department of Assets, Information and Services, offers an enhanced user experience to better inform Chicagoans about the office’s work, and a seamless process to submit a report of misconduct, waste, or abuse in City government.
