CPD Arrests: Charges

What will you find here?

Take a deeper dive into the Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) arrest data by looking at the charges associated with arrests over time. In this dashboard, users can compare charge types and offense categories to the racial demographics of arrestees and arresting CPD members. Users may identify prevalent offenses, track emerging trends, and stay up to date on public safety efforts.

Some questions that can be answered using data in this dashboard are:

  • How many traffic violation arrests occurred in 2022?
  • How do arrestee demographics compare between those charged with felonies and those charged with misdemeanors?
  • What kinds of charges typically result when an arrestee is armed?

Data Sources

All information presented in these dashboards is based on data stored in CPD databases and Chicago Integrated Personnel and Payroll Systems (CHIPPS), the City’s human resources information system. Records begin January 1, 2022, and the data is typically refreshed weekly on Sundays. Data represents the information that is in the CPD databases as of the date of last update (listed at the top of the dashboards). The information in these dashboards only includes data from completed and approved Arrest Reports.
