Investigatory Stop Reports: District
What will you find here?
Assessing investigatory stops by police district—the geographic units into which the Chicago Police Department (CPD) divides the City—provides key information on which communities have more frequent interactions with police. This dashboard allows users to see investigatory stops and resulting pat downs and searches in their community. The data here is also broken down by enforcement action to facilitate an informed understanding of the full investigatory stop process.
Questions that can be answered using data in this dashboard include:
- What time of day do most investigatory stops occur?
- What enforcement action is the most common outcome of a stop?
- How does the number of pat downs compare to the number of searches across districts?
Data Sources
All information presented in these dashboards is based on data stored in CPD databases and Chicago Integrated Personnel and Payroll Systems (CHIPPS), the City’s human resources information system. Records begin January 1, 2016, and the data is typically refreshed weekly on Sundays. Data is current through the date of last update (listed in the top right corner of the dashboards).
