OIG expands the scope of its work

2005-2013

From 2005 to 2009, Inspector General David Hoffman pushed OIG to fully inhabit its mission and bring Chicago’s oversight in line with national best practices, including audits and reviews covering broad areas of government operations. Later, Inspector General Joe Ferguson continued this effort and worked with the Shakman federal monitor to take on, and eventually adopt, full compliance oversight of the City’s hiring plans. While expanding the scope of its activities, OIG continued to conduct investigation of administrative and criminal misconduct and serve as the lead investigative body on high profile cases.
