George Lauder

Deputy Inspector General – Investigations

George Lauder joined the City of Chicago Office of Inspector General as Deputy Inspector General for Investigations in December 2022. Lauder brings over 25 years of professional experience in law enforcement, most recently as Assistant Director in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). During his 21-year tenure at the ATF, Lauder led cyber and international investigative programs, developed policies and processes to support law enforcement and compliance missions, and directed daily operations for more than 4,000 personnel nationwide. Notably, he spent two years in ATF’s Chicago office, leading a top-performing team of criminal investigators and support personnel.

Lauder holds a bachelor of science in criminology from Florida State University, an executive certificate from the Commandant’s National Security Program and the U.S. Army War College, and an executive certificate in leading the intelligence community from the University of Michigan.
