The City of Chicago Benefits Guide describes benefits that are available to full-time employees, in addition to the paid time-off benefits below.

Paid Holiday

Currently, the following 12 days are designated as employee holidays:

Vacation

The City of Chicago provides paid vacation which accrues the first of the month, per the below accrual schedule.

Vacation Accrual Schedule is shown below for years of service:

Less than 6 years of service
6 years or more, but less than 14 years
14 years or more, but less than 24 years
24 years
25 years or more
13 days (7.63 hours per month)
18 days (10.5 hours per month)
23 days (13.44 hours per month)
24 days (14.00 hours per month)
25 days (14.58 hours per month)

Sick Leave

The City of Chicago provides sick leave, which is earned the first of the month at the rate of 1 day per month (or 12 days per year).

Personal Day

City employees earn 1 personal day (1 work day) every January 1 to be used for attending to personal matters in full day increment.

Parental Leave

A FMLA-eligible City employee qualifies for paid parental leave and may request the following paid parental leaves:

Up to four (4) weeks paid maternity leave to a birth mother to recover from a nonsurgical delivery; or
Up to six (6) weeks paid maternity leave to a birth mother to recover from a C-section delivery; or
Up to two (2) weeks paid parental leave for the birth of a child or children to a spouse or domestic partner of the birth mother; or
Up to two (2) weeks paid parental leave for the adoption of a child or children by the employee or the spouse or domestic partner of the employee.
